Artist Proposal

Since my previous artist proposal the direction I want my artwork to go in has changed dramatically. After I completed the series of paintings that consisted of my favorite musicians the feedback I received was overall good but I what I was trying to convey through those particular artworks did not come out so clear to the audience. With that I decided to do a lot of more research about myself as well as other artists and change my approach to my artwork. With my recent fascination with poetry I have decided to incorporate poems into my paintings. Lately I have come to the realization that life does not last forever and in the same essence that I still listen to the music of artists who have passed I want to make more meaningful artwork to the extent that it can really touch my audience. I now approach my artwork with the idea of visually giving a representation of me and what I would like the world to remember me by in the artistic aspect. With all of this being said I have recently done several poetic paintings and will be looking forward to doing more after this point. After I feel this portion is completed I will then dive back into the series of using different imagery of the Trey vs. Jerry theme because I still feel I have so much more inside of me that I need to share. Furthermore, I have become more familiar with different styles of creative writing and have closely studied the works of Lesley Dill and Ann Hamilton. Dill is more of a sculptural artist who makes her own forms and proceeds to use the imagery of words on top of these forms, sometimes even painting full bodies and writing on different body parts. Hamilton on the on the other hand incorporates more of the video into her works, specifically speaking on her video of the wiping away of letter I would like to use these two styles in my future works because I recently been struggling with how I want the viewer to encounter my poetry. I write very lengthy poems and that often gets overlooked because we live in a world where time is of the essence and people want to grasps ideas as quick as possible. So with that being said I want to figure out different ways to shorten my poems or use them in different manners that they catch more of the viewer’s attention and make them actually see parts of themselves in the poems. I want there to always be a connection with the viewer of my work whether it be good or bad I still want there to be room for a reaction. Overall I feel that I am headed into a positive direction in really educating myself on what exactly I want my artwork to be about as well as how I want the interactions to happen with my audiences. The first poem I wrote “Temporary Forever’s” is such a reoccurring theme for me that it really does motivate me to make each one of my works meaningful because tomorrow is never promised so I must make the best work I can today. Overall I will continue to try and find new innovative and interesting ways to illustrate my thoughts and visions through my art.
